IRISH SODA BREAD RECIPE

Ingredients

▢  4 cups all-purpose flour ▢ ¼ cup sugar ▢ 1 teaspoon salt ▢ 1 teaspoon baking powder ▢ ¼ cup unsalted butter ▢ 2 cups raisins ▢ 1½ cups buttermilk ▢ 1 egg ▢ 1 teaspoon baking soda

Instructions Step - 1

Preheat the oven to 375°F.

Step - 2

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder. Cut in the butter using a pastry blender.

Step - 3

Toss the raisins in the flour mixture. In a small bowl or measuring cup, whisk together the buttermilk, egg, and baking soda.

Step - 4

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix gently until just combined.

Step - 5

Shape the dough into a round loaf on a sheet of parchment or a greased baking sheet, and cut two deep slashes on the top in a cross shape with a sharp knife.
